BB's wedding reception at Lago Bar and Grill was a great time, and I was touched by the moving speeches that her and the groom's family's gave. Her wedding reception was a hybrid between a formal wedding reception, and a cocktail party, and there were elements of the party that I found to be very unique.
For one, they had a candy bar at their party. It was a huge long buffet table full of different chocolates and candies, and it was there for people to eat, and to take home as a wedding favor.
I filled my bag as much as possible...I am a huge candy lover! My favorite was the sour grape jelly candies.
They also created their own special wedding cocktail, which was served throughout the night. Unfortunately, the recipe was kept a secret.
Here's a glimpse of the wonderful couple during their first dance...they look so happy.
Ok, now on to the finger foods:
One of my favorites was the asparagus wrapped with smoked salmon. The smoked salmon wasn't too salty, and tasted nice and fresh.

Also really good were the spanakopitas: spinach and cheese inside phyllo pastry.

Although not very appetizing looking, the beef wellingtons tasted much better than they looked.

Another one of my favorites were the seafood spring rolls. They had a strong lobster and crab taste, and were quite delicious.

Super cute were the mini angus beef burgers. Both the buns and meat were a tad tough for my liking.

For a more international flavor, tandoori chicken skewers were served. They were topped with a tasty green chili crème fraîche.

The last two dishes were the sweet potato fries (not pictured), and the sushi rolls. I didn't end up trying the sushi, but they looked like they had crab, cucumber and avocado in them.

Instead of a traditional wedding cake, they had a tower of beautiful mini cupcakes from Ottawa Cupcakery. The cupcakes were extremely moist, and the icing wasn't overly sweet, which I really enjoyed.
Here are the flavors that were served:
Pumpkin: A pumpkin cupcake topped with a spiced, cream cheese buttercream rosette.
Chocolate and Vanilla Swirl: A Madagascar bourbon vanilla cupcake topped with a chocolate and vanilla buttercream swirl.
Red Velvet: A chocolate cupcake tinted red with a secret all-natural ingredient (rasberries) topped with cream cheese buttercream and a white fondant flower.
Banana Bliss: Banana cupcake topped with a layer of chocolate caramel buttercream and chocolate and toffee bits.
Chocolate Dream: A decadent, chocolate cupcake dressed up with shimmer sugar, vanilla buttercream and a blue fondant flower.
Here's what I got to take home with me...SCORE!

what a beautiful wedding reception. and I ADORE the candy bar idea. How fabulous! And the cupcakes looked scrumptious too.
Hello,
I am planning my wedding for next Summer and was wondering where I can get the same cupcake tower? I'm interested in having the ceremony at Lago, I'm more than interested in getting more details on the wedding reception. It sounds like it was great!
Thanks!
My friend rented the cupcake tower from Ottawa Cupcakery for $25. They sell their cupcakes on Etsy (link on my blog post), and I'm not sure if they still do this, but they sell their cupcakes every Saturday at The Candy Store in Westboro. If you want, I can get you in touch with my friend who had her reception at Lago. Feel free to email me at nooschi[at]gmail[dot]com.
