Savour the Tulips, an afternoon cocktail party that kicked off the tulip festival (May 1-18), took place this past Saturday. Beebs, a few friends, and I went to City Hall to check it out.
Savour the Tulips was held in the magnificent mirror tent shipped from Belgium. It resembled an elegant carousal, and it is also known as a Spiegeltent. It is constructed of wood, and only a handful of these are in existence today. The event, sponsored by FoodMODE magazine and Groovy Grapes, brought over 20 food and drink vendors, along with a great DJ, in one tent to entertain everyone for the afternoon.

Over 500 people showed up on Saturday, and line ups for food were extremely long. It took me about an hour to make the entire round of vendors, but I did end up getting a good amount of food for my grumbling stomach.

Pelican Fishery & Grill served up some fresh and delicious hot and cold smoked salmon.

Jo-ann and Jennifer from Red Apron served a flavorful sweet potato and curry soup. Serving alongside them was True Loaf Bakery. I snagged a piece of rye and walnut bread, which went well with my warm, creamy soup.

The new healthy fast food addition on Spark Street, Toss it Up, was there serving their beef salad wraps and 'grown up' Rice Krispie squares (dark chocolate and cognac).
Other awesome vendors that were there included:
The Piggy Market (pork terrine),
ARC Lounge & Restaurant (salmon rillette),
Whalesbone Catering (double smoked mackerel with lemon creme fraiche),
Restaurant e18hteen, and
LAGO bar and grill (lamb with mint pea pesto)
My favorite of the afternoon were the strawberry tarts from Pasticceria Gelateria Italiana. They had hundreds of beautiful little pastries that were devoured in no time.
A big thanks to FoodMODE and Groovy Grapes for a wonderful afternoon with great food and drinks!
