Ever So Posh Lobster Cocktail Potato Crisps

I recently received some goodies from the UK and was ecstatic when I saw these Marks & Spencer Ever So Posh lobster cocktail potato crisps. I loved the flavor idea, I loved the packaging and mostly, I loved the name "Ever So Posh"!

When I first opened the bag, there was a deadly scent of seafood. I thought for sure the chips would have a strong taste of lobster, but surprisingly, they were mild and did not have a strong seafood taste at all. The main ingredient is lobster cocktail seasoning, which among the dried herbs, lemon and tomato, also includes dried oyster and dried lobster. The texture of the chips were very similar to any kettle cooked chips.

Other Ever So Posh flavors available are: Parmesan, Asparagus & Truffle and Sea Salt & Lemon Vinaigrette.

Fruit and Nut Pringles

My friend busted these Pringles out while I was visiting at her place one day. Her brother had just gotten back from Vietnam and brought back these fruit and nut Pringles for her as a gift. When she asked if I wanted to try some, I was like "heck ya!" As some of you know, I'm a sucker for International edible goodies. Check out these Skittles and Kit Kats I've written about.

Were the fruit and nut Pringles good? I wish I could say yes, but they really weren't. The whole nut & fruit concept was a good one and they were cool to try, but it's not something I would buy again.
The two flavors we had were blueberry & hazelnut and lemon & sesame. The fruit taste was very artificial in both, kind of like candy flavors on chips. Of the two, the blueberry and hazelnut was the best. I expected to like the lemon & sesame better but it just tasted like lemon candy with sesame. The blueberry was at least a bit more subtle.

Scream Cheese Doritos

Look at what finally hit the stores! The Doritos guru has been chosen. Ryan Coopersmith from Montreal won the Doritos Guru Contest. If you recall, Doritos held a contest back in March asking Canadians to help name their new Doritos flavor.

To be eligible, you had to come up with a clever name for their new Doritos flavor, plus a 30 second advertising idea for the dudes at Frito Lay.

Ryan Coopersmith came up with "Scream Cheese" and his advertising video idea is below. I'm not a big fan of the name, but the ad idea was pretty good. Overall, the two came nicely together.

Ryan and his friends are now enjoying their new found $25000 + 1% of the flavor's net sales.

The Chip Maker: Microwaved Chips

 

Believe it or not, the chips pictured above were made by microwave. Yes, like you, I thought it was a gross idea... until I tried them *blush*.

Wals' sister was recently in Taiwan, and bought him a "Chip Maker". Being too lazy to make his own chips, he figured I would make better use of the contraption. Being the food dork I am, I was excited by the gift, and ran home to use it.

In reality, this chip maker really isn't a chip maker. It is a mandoline + chip container that you can put in the microwave.

Here's how this puppy works:

You slice your potatoes.

Throw your potato slices, with some seasoning, onto the chip carousel.

Microwave for 5-8 minutes, and ta da!

I made regular potato chips and sweet potato chips, and both tasted good. These were the flavors I tried:

- sea salt and pepper (excellent).
- cayenne pepper and salt (not bad...they were spicy).
- Terriyaki (Wouldn't try this at home, stick to dry salty spices. I used a terriyaki marinade and the sugars completely burnt the chips).

Doritos Guru Contest

Do you have what it takes to become a Doritos Guru? There's not much time left (9 days to be exact), but hey, better late than never.

My sister in law was recently in Vancouver, and brought home a white bag of Doritos with a big question mark stamped on it. It was an unidentified flavor bag of Doritos, and the chip company has partnered with Much Music to help you help them.

There's currently a Doritos contest open to Canadian residents that gives you a chance to win $25,000 + 1% of future Canadian flavor net sales. The contest closes March 18th, and all you have to do is name the flavor and submit a 30 second advertising video idea. It's that simple right?

For all you Canadians, rev up the taste buds and turn that right brain of yours on. It's your chance to win big money.

Dinner conversation at my place tonight was completely focused on what the mystery Doritos tasted like, and a battle on who could come up with the best new name.

I haven't seen any of these unidentified flavor Doritos in Ottawa, but then again, I've only been back in the city for a day. If it's a Canada wide contest, I'm sure they're all over the place.
