The Scone Witch, Ottawa

Scone Witch, Ottawa

If you like scones, The Scone Witch is the place to go.

Their scones are baked daily, and there is a great selection of both sweet and savory scones. If you're looking for more than a plain scone, you can always order one of their 'sconewitches' or breakfast plates.

The Scone Witch just opened a new location in New Edinburgh on Beechwood, and the original location on Albert Street is in the heart of Ottawa's center town business district. Both places are open 7 days a week.

I learned that the owner is a visual artist and takes pleasure in collecting things. I haven't been to the location on Beechwood, but the the decor of the Albert Street shop is full of neat pieces both old and new.

The piece below is from 1986!

I've been on a scone binge lately, and have stopped in at the Scone Witch a few too many times.

Here are the scones I've tried:

The lemon poppy seed scone is by far my favorite. The subtle lemon flavor combined with the crunchy poppy seeds and rich buttery goodness is a match made in heaven.

The currant and ginger scone is another favorite of mine: tart and spicy. Pair this scone with their rhubarb ginger jam, and you're golden.

The rhubarb ginger Moss Berry Farm jam was more gingery than I expected, which I liked. The jams here are delicious and very affordable: $5.75 for a 250mL jar and $2.75 for 64mL sampler jar.

Beebs' favorite is the pumpkin scone. Unfortunately, this flavor was only available for the month of October.

The cheddar scone is one of their savory scones. While this one was good, I think I prefer the sweet scones. Never thought I'd say that. I've always chosen salt before sugar!

Below is the weekend brunch plate. It consists of scrambled eggs, salad, fresh fruit, and your choice of scone, condiment and side. I chose the orange cranberry scone with smoked salmon and lemon curd. The orange cranberry scone was delicious!

Beebs ordered the same weekend brunch plate and chose the lemon poppy seed scone, sauteed veggies, and wild raspberry & blueberry jam.

My friend, A, had their turkey sconewitch with a feta, garlic & herb scone.

I also really enjoy their Bottle Green sparkling drinks. You have to try the elderflower drink: delicate and subtle. The elderflower adds a beautiful floral taste.

I've never been to Scone Witch but have been meaning to. Your review just convinced me to make it a priority. Everything looks fresh and delicious! How was the lemon curd?

The lemon curd alone was really good. But, for some reason, I much prefer their jams with the scones. I find the lemon curd is so flavorful, it almost masks the subtle tastes of the scones. Just my personal taste though.

What another cute spot! And the scones look perfect. All of them. You take great shots.Always.I wondered if you are a photographer too?:) In the work market?

You are good enough.

The lemon curd was not bad.. unique. It makes a nice a spread. Jams are amazing though. the pics are great!

This place looks really cool, and I love their name! :P Wish we had something like that in London! (come to think of it I'm surprised there isn't)...

Have you tried scones with devonshire cream and jam? The combo is super tasty!

La Table De Nana,
No, I'm not a photographer. It is purely a hobby for me. Funny thing is, I only know how to take food photos. Ask me to do a portrait, and it will be a disaster. Thank you for your kind words.

The Asian Pear,
I've never had scones with Devonshire Cream and jam. I'm not normally a cream fan but I've heard it is very good. I guess I should try it at least once. Thanks.

Hi!

I LOVE the Scone Witch! My favorite is the vanilla cream topped with the Apple and Pear preserves from Harvest Song (http://www.harvestsongventures.com). I bought my first jar at the Scone Witch and never looked back.

Thanks for your post - it reminds me that I should check out the new location!

Oh no... I just finished lunch and looking at those scones is making me hungry again.NO!!!!!
