Kayaking was a blast!! The water was incredibly blue, and Abel Tasman was beautiful. We didn't get to see any penguins, but the birds and seals were great to watch.
With an abundance of fresh mussels from the Tasman Sea, I had to try a mussel burger while visiting Abel Tasman National Park. At low tide, you can see heaps of famous New Zealand green lipped mussels washed up and clinging to rocks.
I had my mussel burger at The Fat Tui, a little roadside joint that serves incredibly fresh and delicious food. The burgers here are awesome. They are spiced in a way that will make you sigh with pleasure everytime you take a bite. The mussel burgers do have a very seafoody musselly taste to them, but if you are going to order a mussel burger, that is how it should taste!
The owner is super friendly, and I highly recommend this place for its burgers. I had a bite of CK's beef burger, and it was just as good as my mussel burger.
We were supposed to finish off our trip by driving the rest of the South Island through Marlborough and Blenheim, but we just made a last minute decision to zip back to Christchurch in time to fly to Rotorua for 2 days. I have always wanted to see geothermals and hot mud pools, so I am excited! We are also looking forward to a traditional hangi meal. We just booked at Te Puia. According to Frommers, the best hangi meal in Rotorua is there. I hope that's true.
