I was contacted by Putumayo World Music announcing that they are soon releasing two food-themed music CDs: Brazilian Café & Picnic Playground, and was asked if I wanted advance copies of the CD's to preview. After receiving the email, I checked out some of their music on the Putumayo website and really liked what I heard. I happily agreed to the advance CDs, and am thoroughly enjoying them. I'm a huge bossa nova lover, so the Brazilian Cafe CD is right up my alley.
Putumayo's goal is to introduce and connect people to different cultures through music. I love their concept, and am open to anything that embraces different cultures. Each CD comes with a thick booklet, written in English, Spanish, and French, that provides short bios on every artist featured on the CD. It doesn't stop there. Each booklet also contains recipes by leading international chefs.
I am giving one lucky reader an advance copy of each of the new CDs that is scheduled to be released July 28th: Brazilian Café & Picnic Playground.
Picnic Playground is a light, fun summer collection that will make you smile and dance. Two simple recipes, created by a child nutritionist and geared for children are featured in this CD. The songs will take you on a worldwide food journey with songs featured from countries such as France, Germany, Trinidad, and Australia.
Brazilian Cafe features very chill bossa nova, samba, and jazz music from different cities in Brazil. The recipes keep with the theme of the CD: A wonderful Brazilian dessert and coffee drink.
If you want a chance to win the two CDs mentioned above, leave me a comment and let me know what kind of music/songs you like to listen to while cooking or eating.
I will pick a winner at random on the morning of July 28th at 9:00am Pacific Time, and will ask the winner to contact me with their mailing address. If you are feeling lucky, and have an inkling you are going to win, you can choose to send me your mailing address in advance for prompt shipping. Please be sure to include 'Food CD' in the title, and include the name you commented with. If you are commenting without a link to an account/site, I would also recommend that you send me an email so that I have your email address handy in case you win. All emails should be sent to nooschi [at] gmail [dot] com.
Putumayo has a vast collection of CDs, and I'm sure there is a CD for just about anyone. Feel free to check out their online catalog.
One percent of proceeds from the sale of Brazilian Cafe will go to Terra dos Homens Brazilian Association supporting children's and adolescents' rights and similarly, one percent of proceeds from the sale of Picnic Playground will go to Vitamin Angels, a group that provides essential nutrients to children in the US and around the world.
***[Updated July 28 '09] The winner of the contest is Gina from Gina's Weight Watcher Recipes. Congratulations***

Took a listen to some of the samples and they sound pretty good.
I like to listen to BBC radio 1 when I cook. Usually listen to some Pete Tong.
I love to listen to Frank Sinatra while eating dinner, and when I'm cooking I like to listen to 80s rock! Brazilian Cafe and Picnic Playground sound great. I'd love to try them!
I love these kind of cd collections, i grew up listening to this kind of music and love to have it on while I bake, it makes me dance at the same time!
I love Brazilian music, "Black Orpheus" is my favorite movie and sound track. Anything with a World Beat I love and I would definitely enjoy cooking away to these CDs! When I am at our kitchen making fruit pops late at night we always listen to San Diego's "Big Sonic Chill"! By the way.... Nooschi rocks, love your blog!
I love to match the music I listen to and the cuisine I'm cooking. My favourite is traditional Italian songs as I make spaghetti sauce or roll out pasta.
Great giveaway!

Been lurking for a while and thought this was probably the best opportunity to make my first comment :)
I usually turn on the tv and listen to the food network while I cook or if someone's on that I don't really enjoy (Rachael Ray :P) then I turn on the radio to CBC Radio2!

i saw your post on ottawa foodies and love your blog.
my son is almost 2, so we put on dancing music to make dinner when we get home from work and daycare.
our current rotation is jackson 5, or renee & jeremy. my son has his own drawer full kid sized pots, pan and utensils, so he makes dinner while i make dinner too. we both dance :)

@hipfunkyfun: thanks for the reminder about adding jackson 5 to my wedding playlist. heh!
Right now, I'm listening to a lot of indie music while I cook: Neko Case, Iron + Wine, Ani DiFranco
I'm kinda of excited for our wedding playlists though, because everyone will be grilling and dancing and drinking and it will kind of be a bit like what hipfunkyfun described, only with 50people instead of 2. The playlist has lots of old jukebox tunes.

I like to pump some classical when I am cooking, totally tune out all the chaos around the house.
Nice blog, been reading a while and commenting.
Good luck to all!!!
BTW AMELIE, Putumayo food music cD also have Italian cafe songs i believe.
Cooking music usually includes Blag Flag, Motorhead, Flipper, The Cramps and The Horrorpops.
I like to turn on my TV and listen to the sport channels when I cook. Maybe I will start listening to music if I win the CDs :-).
I love to listen to Pink Martini while I cook. I've got all their albums!
well i must admit, i refuse to cook, but i love to eat!!... how about the Horror Pops? ‘cause that’s what the hubby plays quite often while he whips up a culinary feast for us... and you know, it’s kinda food-oriented... reminds me of lollipops..... but not really.
I love to listen to samba, salsa, jazz and spanish guitar when I cook. My dad lived in Brazil many years and I love Brazilian music!
When I am cooking, I pick a letter randomly, then go to my music collection, and pick an album that starts with that letter. So yesterday, I picked "G", and listened to Gwen Stefani. PS, I think that your blog is nooschilicious, and I get hungry every time I check it out. Thanks for sharing!
I use my laptop like a digital recipe book, so I usually end up perching my computer in some corner of the counter to avoid getting ingredients in the keys, put my iTunes on my cooking playlist, and go!
Cooking playlist consists of lots of rock/jazz like John Mayer and Norah Jones.
I like to listen to new music when I try a new recipe. I like listening to the classical music station when I'm dealing with the tried and true.
I am a trueblue Blues afficionado, BUT when I am in the kitchen I always listen to Jazz!
Love to listen to Michael Bubble, some Italian, french music depending on what I'm cooking!

OMG - I love Putumayo's CD's!! I have 5 or 6 of them! My favorite one (and the one that I always cook and clean to) is the "Music from the Wine Lands" - it's so good!! I also love the "Paris" one...but really, they're all fantastic!

Depending on what I am making, I'l pick the genre. My favorite 'mellow' mixes are the Silent Hill soundtracks, a long mix by Cafe del Mar, or ES Posthumous.
I love Brazilian music, especially jazz.
Thank you,
Winnie
