About Us

Nooschi is dedicated to bringing you cool and inspiring food content that will stimulate your senses and expand your culinary world. Our focus is global, with a deep appreciation for different cultures and how those influences have shaped the culinary world today. We like things that are fun, delicious, inspirational, beautiful, quirky and artistic.

What does Nooschi mean?

Pronounced noo-shee, the name is a true portmanteau, and is combination of the Persian and Chinese culture. In Persian, the word for bon appétit is noosh – e – jan, and the word for eating in Chinese is chi. You combine the two and you get Nooschi!

To help you navigate around the site, here are some things you may want to know:

Recipes – You'll notice there aren’t a lot of them. That's because we only publish the ones that are tried, tested and used over and over in our own kitchens. We love ones with an exotic twist but also appreciate the simple recipes for busy people on the go!

Restaurants – Restaurants we have tried and liked, hence our desire to share it with you. We are not food critics nor do we write about things that we don't like. With so many great restaurants out there, it's a waste of time to focus on the negative. You can search restaurants by city or country on the home page.

Cuisine – This displays all posts organized by a specific cuisine such as Thai, Italian or Indian. The cuisine listing on the home page is not a full list of every cuisine we have every written about, it is a short list of the types of cuisines we write about most.

Products - Just like restaurants, this section is all about products we like and want to share with you. While we do accept free offers or paid posts from companies, we will never write about anything that we don't like.

People and Events - From time to time, we will come across people or go to events that inspire us and we write all about it in these two sections.

If there is anything you would like to see more of on the site, we love feedback. Or if you'd like to contribute, visit the Contact Page to get in touch.

It just occurred to me that your worldliness, blogging skills and connection to Australia might uniquely qualify you for The Best Job In The World! Just a thought... :)

Funny...I've actually been trying to get on their website to check it out, but their site has crashed! You're not the first to tell me that.

Your San Diego adventures make me want to go back!!! But the assortment of Ottawa restaurants will keep me busy for now!
PS: Song Ha has the best Pad Thai in town. Nothing fancy, but its amazing.

I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to come across your blog but i'm glad I did (thanks to Don from foodiePrints).

Your blog looks amazing and i'm looking forward to following on your food adventures in Ottawa and abroad!

hi... i'm looking for a bit of advice re: food blogging. I have questions about propriety of taking food/restaurant pictures - do you ask the establishment first? do they ever hassle you at all?

I don't. But I don't use a flash or get in anyone's way or ask for anything from the staff. And I do my best to do it discretely, as much as possible anyway.

You must remember Turkish Bread from your time in Australia. I used to be able to buy it in Toronto (Manoucher) but so far haven't found it in Ottawa. Have you seen it here???

I attended an extremely formal banquet yesterday in New Delhi....it was an experience in itself so I got searching and stumbled upon your blog. It is such a wonderful space that you have on the web :) In depth, passionate about food and so alive!! Cheers to that :)

Hi Foodie, Your Lemon Loaf recipe has been selected by Knapkins to be featured in a Recipe Guessing Game. Please share the following link with your friends and fans. To play, go here: http://knapkins.com/guess_games/436?source=blog Congrats again!! :)

Took a peek through the blog - great reviews and you've featured some restaurants in Ottawa that are unknown to me - can't wait to check them out myself! Love your "spotted" feature also! We also noticed that our travels revolve around food - we're more likely to go somewhere if we hear about a new dish or a cuisine we want to try out! Our last taste adventure was to Montreal this summer to try out Kouing Amann and Fish Tacos!
